About Us

At Mad River Eye Care, we go above and beyond to ensure every patient receives personalized attention and expert care. From comprehensive eye exams to specialized treatments, our experienced team is dedicated to helping you achieve optimal vision and eye health. One of the things that sets us apart is our high Google rating. Don’t just take our word for it—check out what our patients have to say about their experiences with us! We are proud to have such positive feedback from those who have visited our office, and we work hard every day to maintain our reputation for outstanding service.

We understand how valuable your time is, which is why we don’t make our patients wait months for an appointment. We are one of the only offices in the area that is not booking out 6-8 months in advance. Our patients often tell us that they love the vibe in our office, which is something we take great pride in. We strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where you can relax and feel at ease during your visit.

Giving back to the community

Giving back is an important part of our practice philosophy. Dr. Mitchell has volunteered his time participating in clinics in Central America, providing much-needed eye care services and glasses for those in underserved areas. Our team is also happy to coordinate vision and eye health screenings for events or groups within the community. If you come across any organizations or events that could use support or sponsorship from Mad River Eye Care, let us know!

Environmental awareness

Our practice strives to minimize waste and uses recyclable products and packaging whenever possible. Bring in old glasses you no longer need, and we’ll find a way to reuse or recycle them. We try to do business with vendors and partners who are aware of global issues. It is important for us to find vendors who offer environmentally friendly shipping and production options.

In addition to recycling or repurposing eyeglasses, we partner with The Bausch + Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program to recycle contact lenses.

Ashley George, CPOT

Ashley started in the optometry field over 10 years ago. Since the beginning, she has been passionate about learning all aspects of eye care. Starting as a receptionist and then working as a technician and transitioning to billing and coding, she is excited to now use her knowledge to step into the Office Manager position and also learn and grow as an Optician Apprentice. She has obtained certification as a Paraoptometric Technician and holds a certificate in Optometric Management.

Julia Hoffert

Medical Receptionist

Meet our receptionist, Julia! She was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. She has always had a passion for helping others. When she was 16, she got her CNA certification so she could lend her time to those who needed it more. From that point on, she was hooked. She worked in the medical field on and off for six years, so she’s experienced in dealing with people from all walks of life. Her favorite part of working in healthcare was always the patients. She has a bubbly and outgoing personality which makes her a great face of Mad River Eye Care!

More about Julia Hoffert

When she’s not working, Julia enjoys spending time with her family, three adorable cats (Salem, Earl Grey, and Jinx), reading (boy howdy does this girl read), going on adventures, and playing video games.

Danielle Nelson, CPOA

Lab Manager

Danielle joins us with over ten years of experience in the optometric field. She was born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom and spent her college years exploring up and down the East Coast while studying Marketing & Technology. In true Danielle form, she completely switched gears and fell into medical optometry as a receptionist and has been passionate about it ever since. She has been trained and certified as a Paraoptometric Technician, Assistant, and Vision Therapist, and is working toward her Optician’s License. Now that she’s back in Vermont, you will find her running around our lab and office helping patients to see clearer and look great too!

More about Danielle Nelson

Danielle is looking forward to planting new roots in the local area for the next chapters of her life. She loves to spend time with her three children, their mixed mutt, Jake, and the most recent addition to her heart family: a rescue puppy named Banks.

Meet our CFO. Molly came on as the practice closed due to COVID. She works alongside Dr. Mitchell and our office manager Ashley to keep the practice in the black. Molly loves all things theatre, skiing, and mountain biking. Most days, you’ll find Molly negotiating with her four delightful albeit challenging children.
